"Bares, milagros e inundaciones"

Galería Palatina is pleased to invite you to the exhibition "Bars, Miracles, and Floods" by Daniel Santoro, the artist's first exhibition since winning the Alberto J. Trabucco Drawing Prize awarded by the National Academy of Fine Arts this year.

“Bars, Miracles, and Floods” consists of two parts. The first addresses the theme of bars and is composed of mostly large-format paintings. They depict these venues as places permeated by social and political reality: bars like La Giralda, the Florida Garden, or the Bar Británico, where ideas, friendships, and disputes ferment. “A corner bar is an ideal panopticon for meditative contemplation of the world,” Santoro reflects in a brief theory about bars. “To paraphrase Sartre, we are what the bars made of us,” he concludes.

In the second part of the exhibition, through drawings and paintings, the artist introduces us to the city, its forests, and Buenos Aires's great architectural landmarks, such as the Kavanagh Building and the Barolo Palace. Here, differences and injustices are highlighted and emphasized. This series of small-format paintings allude to the housing problem, and the yearnings and hopes that the desires of its inhabitants offer.
